{January 17, 2008}   And Because I Clearly Have Too Much Time on My Hands…..

Or possibly because I am effectively procrastinating doing the dishes and starting a load of the kids’ laundry (I’m not telling which; I’m sure you can all figure that out yourselves….)…. it is now time for Princess Bride Trivia! Yes, I wasted a significant portion of my feckless youth watching this ridiculous movie (which I now have to watch again this afternoon with the kids when they get home from school) and have seen this movie more times than anyone should really see any movie. My supporting evidence for this boastful claim is that of the twenty questions on the quiz, I got fifteen right (missed #2,5,13 [missed the guy right before Westley], 14, and couldn’t remember the order or all the pieces to 18).

So, if you grew up watching this movie or are named Jonathan and happen to be my brother, I fully expect to you waste valuable moments of your day by taking this quiz and then posting your score in the comments section so I can further boast about how much higher my score is than yours. Moowahahahahahhaa! Good sales pitch, no? :)

Wow. It’s been six years since I last saw this movie, and I’m obviously quite rusty. However, I still beat you. Moowahahahahahhaa! Like you, I missed 2, 5, and 18. Also, I missed one of the answers to 15 (did you get all of them)? But, I got 13 and 14 right.

Six years? And you know this because you…. wrote it on your calendar? I try it out on my kids every couple of years and so far they haven’t been impressed, which I find very distressing. The humor is lots of word play, which is a bit more sophisticated than their senses of humor are yet, although Georgie is beginning to appreciate it some.

I didn’t get all the ones on 15 but got most of them. Thirteen I couldn’t remember who Westley inherited the ship from. They’re right. That name would certainly not inspire the necessary fear! And fourteen I remembered what Humperdink said his father’s last words were. I should have gotten that one. Duh! Kind of a fun way to kill ten minutes anyway (and yes, I was expecting you to beat me since you and Stevie used to actually recite the entire movie start to finish). :)

I last saw the movie at a party at Abhi and Rahul’s place during my first year in Rochester, which would have been the 2001-2002 school year, six years ago. As to the last words, is this to say that you forgot it was a dream sequence? My first reaction was that he didn’t die, he said “won’t that be nice?” at the end of the movie (I didn’t think about the “she kissed me”, but since the correct answer was “none”, I don’t feel too bad about this). Then I remembered the dream sequence words, so I assume all of this counts as full credit…

Rachel says:

Yes! That was your little one! :-) She’s pretty adorable!
